I'm Maggie-May McGuckien, founder of The Giving Shed. The Giving Shed started as a local community based project with the idea of helping others. Now operating as a registered charity we accept gently used and new donations to offer to those in need. We provide food, stationery, clothes, pet food and toys, household items, toiletries etc. This wouldn't be possible without your continued support!
Our Story
The Giving Shed was established with a clear and compassionate mission: to provide practical support to individuals and families experiencing hardship. Founded in response to the challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic, the organisation has evolved into a vital community resource, ensuring that new and high-quality preloved items are redistributed to those who need them most whilst promoting environmental sustainability and reducing landfill waste.
Built on a culture of dignity, respect, and community partnership, The Giving Shed encourages households to donate items they no longer require, creating a cycle of generosity in which supporters can also access assistance should their circumstances change.
The Giving Shed provides essential support to families, vulnerable adults, individuals experiencing homelessness, residents in sheltered accommodation, and young people in care. Through the thoughtful redistribution of clothing, food, toiletries, and household essentials, the organisation has supported more than 1500 families over the last four years.
Continued community and partner support is essential for sustaining and expanding this work. With ongoing investment The Giving Shed can remain a trusted source of support, strengthening resilience and improving wellbeing across the community.
